Happy Family

Today, I offer what is known as “Happy Family”.  Amanda and Michael are in from South Carolina.  I am so happy to have the two of them back in my nest.  South Carolina is way too far for weekend visits, especially when we drive a thirteen year old Windstar with 210,000 miles on it.  I’ve been gearing up for mother-daughter time, and tonight we initiated two and a half weeks of it!  Me, Amanda, Michael, shopping, cooking, jabbering, laughing, eating, more jabbering, walking and jabbering.  Today we walked our dog Fen, who is a Chihuahua, Dachshund, and Italian Gray Hound mix.  He has a real issue with the fall temperatures in Michigan.  Fen is less than a year old and has never seen winter; and is in for one long cold sad season.  Often we already find him hiding under the quilt in the daytime.  For the walk, we had to put his sweatshirt and coat on, and I tied a little babushka around his head, which looked really warm, but extremely silly.  Amanda laughed at the fact that I actually owned a dog that needed clothing in the cold months.  (Our late Luna was full blooded Siberian).  Fens’s funny hat lasted until about four houses down and then he made it into a scarf.  For dinner we had Pizza.

Russo’s Pizza (an auxiliary recommendation from Brian)

So what does our family eat when Mamma gets to frogging around the mall until late with Amanda?  Pizza, of course!  And not just any pizza.  You can have your Red Baron and your Tombstone or whatever, at two for five or something from the grocery store, but it cannot compare with a quick stop at Russo’s Pizzeria on 44th Street, just West of Burlingame.  You ask me, what’s with the shameless plug for a local business?  It’s a plug, but far from shameless.  This is good food, at a good price.  After my son moved out on his own, I told him to get a local pizzeria into his head, and avoid the drive-up windows.  Pizzeria food is admittedly high carbohydrate intake, so don’t eat there every day.  On the other hand, pizza is a combination of freshly made bread, tomatoes, cheese, perhaps some meat, and some herbs.  It’s just not junk food.  So, you can call ahead, or stop and chat with Mike and company while you wait.  One other thing about the pizzeria is, you won’t be cold in there, even in the winter!

FENRIR, Monster-Wolf of the Norse Legends

FENRIR AND ODIN duke it out at Ragnarok.  You can see the similarity, can’t you?
